DON'T STARE AT ME

Liam is a wee wisp of a boy - he weighs only a slight 127 pounds, which is still underweight for his short stature of 5'6. He's pale-skinned, almost to the point of being sallow, and he burns easily. His hair is jet black and usually in a wild mess unless he uses gel to smooth it down or style it. His eyes are pale blue with fine eyelashes that give him a feminine appearance (and this is without even dolling up!). Li has only a tiny bit of muscle on his waifish form, and that is only because he was forced into weight lifting class by his father for most of high school.

Li's style, when he isn't getting all dressed up (emphasis on the word 'dress'), is casual but kind of eccentric. His shirts always say some kind of odd message, or make reference to works that some people would never have even heard of. If his clothes aren't geek-fashion, they're girl-fashion. Liam loves to wear feminine clothes, but while in school or in a 'sophisticated' place he usually goes for the subtle approach by only wearing girl's shirts, jeans, and maybe a bit of makeup. When in full drag, it's a whole other story - he goes all out - but Liam very rarely goes out in full drag.

I WON'T SHUT UP, I KNOW THAT I SHOULD

Liam is, at his core, a very friendly person. He loves meeting new people and chatting them up, finding out where they're from, what they do for a living, the works. Talking is something Li is exceptionally good at, and that can be quite annoying for anyone who isn't used to his chatty nature. However, his kindness and willingness to help people with their problems can make him a valuable friend to have.

He loves being the center of attention of all kinds (though he of course prefers positive attention). His dream to become a stage actor shows through with his mannerisms, which can range from the dramatic to the somewhat egotistical. Music plays a big part in his life, and Li is almost obsessive about it. He's such a music geek, in fact, that he freaks out whenever his favorite band or artist is insulted, or when someone makes a totally false comment about them. He's also a huge old-time movie geek, and reacts about his favorite movie stars as he does about his favorite musicians.

Though he seems like a happy-go-lucky, 'the world is my oyster' kind of guy, Liam is secretly easily troubled. He's sensitive about many things, especially his sexuality and his manners of expressing himself through art and the way he dresses. If these manners are attacked, he closes in on himself and doesn't come out for a very long time, and not without a good cause. He hides behind his manic, loud personality and exuberance, but on the inside he's very self-critical, and has a rather low self-esteem. This problems can lead to self-deprecation and even self-abuse, but Liam hasn't sought help for them.

LIVING IN THE PAST

History:

Liam was born into a strict Irish-catholic family. Values and testaments were read out with such frequency that it became almost like taking one's vitamins. Living in such a strict household, with a mother who cared only for her landscapes, and a father who was out at all hours of the night driving drunkards home, Liam was often lonely and very much wanting to rebel. His brother was his only real friend in the family: Eddie taught him amazing things about the world outside there little town, and he promised Li he'd take him to see them one day.

Li found hope in his brother's words, so that made living in his prison...er, home a lot easier. However, it wasn't enough for the already dramatic little boy. He began pleading with his mom to pay for acting classes for him, even if they were the cheap school-funded kind. His mother finally gave in, and Li started attending amateur acting courses over the summer. It turned out that he had a talent for it, and the classes only helped to feed his dreams.

He discovered his sexuality when he was about twelve, and he had his first boyfriend soon after. He kept the boy a secret from his parents. It wasn't like it would be all that surprising, but he didn't think his parents would be thrilled about the idea of their youngest son going for guys. Li was even afraid to tell his brother, whom he normally told everything. Liam and his boyfriend were together for only a couple months, but it was a big step toward self-realization for Li.

When he was fourteen and in the ninth grade, Li began to experiment with makeup and girls' outfits. He liked the way he looked when he tried the stuff on, and he could see that other people liked the way he looked too. What was more, it got him attention (sometimes bad, sometimes good), and Li loved attention. He managed to keep this a secret from his parents and family, too, and it lasted for a few more years that way.

One day, unfortunately for Liam, he was caught. He had tried on a cute flapper-style dress his friend had lent him, and he thought he looked quite good with it on, along with a bit of Marlene Dietrich makeup and hair adjusting to go with it. It was at that moment, when he'd smoothed out the skirt and was posing in front of his bedroom mirror, that his mother decided to walk in. She was shocked. He was shocked. She screamed. He screamed. They both stared for a very long time.

Then, she blew up. She yelled the pants...um, skirt right off him, and then she said the universal words that could make every child quake in fear: "Wait until your father gets home!" Liam knew it was going to be bad. He quickly changed into his most masculine clothes while his mother stayed all the way on the other side of their small house, refusing to look at him.

Li's father came home a few hours later, along with Liam's brother. Li was so ashamed, and not to mention terrified. When his mother told Liam's father of the news, it looked as if the man was going to hurt Liam, he appeared so angry. It was only when Eddie cut in between them that the man calmed down. Eddie told his father that maybe there was a way to help Liam, and then he told their parents about a reform school he had heard opened up. Li was gawking at his brother in horror. What was Eddie doing? Eddie gave him a look that was trying to convey I'm trying to save your ass, so just chill out and don't say anything to mess this up. Liam obeyed, and his parents made a decision.

Liam was to be enrolled in Red Sky Academy, where hopefully he could be "straightened out" (in every sense of the words). Li was dreading going to the academy, but he knew Eddie had saved him from a possibly worse fate, and for that he would be eternally grateful. Eddie seemed skittish around Liam now that he knew Li's secret, but he did say before Liam left that he'd always have his back because "What else are brothers for?" Li, yet again, had at least a tiny shred of hope.
