There must have been a moment when we could have said 'no.' Somehow we missed that moment.

The day was beautiful. It was obvious that spring was coming from the way the grass began to spring from the earth, and how the trees were slowly beginning to regain their leaves. Flowers would be coming soon, and not just the hardy weeds and the select few daffodils that sprung up at the moment, but other flowers like pansies and dogwood and tulips.
Susannah was ready for springtime. She had been ready for it throughout the winter, in fact. Winter was a horrible time for her, because not only did it make caring for flowers difficult, but it seemed such a dark time for the whole world. She could handle autumn, with its many colors and few remaining blossoms that came in yellows, oranges, reds. Winter, though, was cold, cold, cold...no life, no greenery, no beauty. At least, that's how she saw it.
She sighed and turned on her heel, balancing carefully on the park's pathway that she was strolling on. Sue was happy for the warmth, and for the hope that the world would be in bloom again. There was nothing she hated more than a barren terrain. Nothing, she thought, could ever look more hopeless.
Her dark hair blew into her eyes and mouth as the wind changed direction, and Sue sputtered in annoyance and tried to untangle the wild locks from her face. As she was struggling with this, she tripped on the pathway and toppled over sideways. Into a flower bed. Lilacs, most likely. The oddity of being confronted with what she had just been thinking of was, for the moment, lost on her as she tried to, for one, get her hair out of her face, and secondly try to stand up without ruining an entire flower bed.
